Why Your Panels Go Quiet in a Blackout

Grid-tied solar has a safety rule built in: when utility power drops, the system shuts down so it can’t push electricity onto lines a crew is repairing. The panels are fine. They’re just not allowed to run.

A battery changes the rule. It disconnects your home from the grid, keeps the house running, and lets the panels wake back up. On a clear day the sun runs the house and recharges the battery for the night.

How well that works is decided at design time. Stored energy determines how long things run. Power output determines what can run at once. Both have to match your house, not a spec sheet.
