Hardware

What was installed, and why.

  • Modules — 32× panels

DNA-120-M26-365. Sized to cover the home's 12-month baseline load with a minor buffer for future electrification.

  • Inverter — Enphase IQ 7+

Grid-tied inverter equipment converts rooftop production for home loads and FPL net metering.

  • Racking — mounting system

Standoffs anchored with stainless-steel bolts directly into the roof trusses

Project notes

About the project

Weston has some of Broward County's most aggressive HOAs, and the neighborhood was no exception — the approval process for solar on a visible front-facing slope can take longer than the install itself. Sprightful handled the paperwork, designed an array that kept panels off the highest-visibility surfaces, and got the system approved on the first submission.

The system is 32 Jinko 365-watt panels on the Moras' Spanish tile roof. Each panel is supported by a standoff bolted with stainless-steel hardware directly into the roof trusses below — not clamped to the tile itself — and paired with a flashed tile-replacement mount that seals against the underlayment where each standoff rises through. It's the South-Florida-grade approach we use on every tile roof: the array's full wind load transfers into the home's structural frame, not into the brittle tile surface above it. Every panel pairs with an Enphase IQ 7+ microinverter for per-panel production visibility. Install took 13 days in September 2021.

Why it matters

A 30-year financial and environmental decision.

These aren't projections pulled from thin air. FRCC eGRID emissions data, current FPL residential tariff, and modeled production under South Florida irradiance (~1,500 kWh/kW/yr).

Good-faith estimates using FRCC eGRID emissions data, current FPL tariff, and Aurora-modeled production. Actual results vary with shading, weather, and future rate changes.

I really couldn't imagine a better company to help me with my solar and energy needs. After trying to inquire about solar with a larger company and being disappointed by their customer service, I discovered Sprightful — and not only did they have what I was looking for, but the level of service has been unmatched by any company I've ever dealt with.

As a first-time homeowner, adding something like a large solar system can feel nerve-wracking, but Andrea really put me at ease and answered every conceivable question I had with a great attitude. It took me a while to decide, and Andrea never took longer than a day to answer any question I had at any random day of the week. She really educated me along the way.

After making the decision to move forward, the Sprightful team was professional, fast, and a delight to work with. Sabrina walked me through the entire process with permitting and answered all questions quickly. If there ever was a hiccup it was only ever due to permitting or HOA issues, and Sprightful was quick to resolve those inquiries. Dustin and the rest of the installers were also very fast, professional, and tidy. During the entire install it would be hard to know from the outside that any work was being done on the house. The install couldn't have gone better.

Now with the system fully installed, I've saved money, helped the environment, and am eager to work with Sprightful more on this journey to be sustainable and more energy efficient. They have gone above and beyond what I expected.

FAQ

Solar in Weston, FL.

How long does the solar permit process take in Weston?

Weston took 63 days from submittal to approval on this project. Typical range we've seen is 2–8 weeks depending on whether the roof assembly requires a secondary wind-load review.

What size solar system is typical for a Weston home?

Most Weston homeowners land between 8–16 kW — sized to offset 90–100% of their FPL bill. This project is 11.7 kW, on the standard end.

Does my HOA need to approve it?

Florida's Solar Rights Act (§163.04) prevents HOAs from outright banning rooftop solar. They can make reasonable aesthetic requests — we handle the HOA submittal directly and have a 100% approval rate to date.

What rebates and incentives are available in Broward County?

The 30% federal Investment Tax Credit (ITC) is the primary incentive — Florida has no state-level solar rebate. There's also no property tax increase for the added home value (Florida exemption), and no sales tax on the equipment.
